I hope you are all enjoying the winter season and getting ready for February vacations. As you know, our next big pack event is the Blue and Gold dinner.
The Bears are responsible for the overall planning and organization for the event. But, as with all our events, it takes the whole Pack to make it happen. So we will need everyone to pitch-in and help out in making this a great evening.
For those new to Cub Scouts, the Blue & Gold dinner is an annual event for the whole family to celebrate Cub Scouting. We also use this event (like the Pinewood derby) as a fundraiser for our Pack charity. Each year we choose a theme – this year the theme is Colors. Each den is to create a short skit or song (based on the theme) to perform in front of the audience and also to use the theme for deciding how to decorate their tables and cakes for those that enter the cake decorating competition.
When and Where:
Saturday, 10 March 2018 from 18:00 – 21:00 (set up ahead of time)
Crossroads church in Ferney
To prepare for the banquet we wanted to send out a few requests.
SKIT / SONG
Each den should prepare a skit or song around the theme that should last AT MOST 3 minutes. We will let you work that out amongst yourselves, within your Den. The big salle at the church has a sound system. So, if you want to put your skit to music you must send us an .MP3 of the music in advance to facilitate the technical logistics. As soon as you have chosen your Skit please let us know. We try to keep it to only one den per moment. PLEASE keep the skits family friendly (no violence, guns, etc…)
TOMBOLA / RAFFLE
Each year, every den is asked to prepare a gift basket of small items for us to use in our raffle and tombola with the proceeds going towards our charity (typically around 10CHF per contributor – or pooled by Den to donate a larger item) Raffle tickets are only sold at the event itself and not in advance.
Finally, any small donations to use as tombola prizes are appreciated.
Corporate gifts (mugs, hats, etc) and small unwrapped items suitable (and
interesting) for boys of Cub Scout-age are perfect for the tombola. Big donations would go toward the raffle.
Each den will provide their own food and drinks (potluck style). Some dens go all out with their food preparations and others just have finger foods. It’s your choice. Adult beverages are permitted but remember that this is a family event so drink responsibly!! We will provide tablecloths, but could each Den please bring with them every other item they might need (silverware, paper plates, plastic cups and napkins etc)
The Parent-and-Child Bake Off is a big hit every year. Each scout is invited to make and decorate a cake with their parent. Each participating scout will receive a “cake decorating” patch for his vest. After the winner(s) are selected – and there are many different categories with “winners”, the baked goods will the distributed as dessert after dinner. Additionally, there will be hot drinks for sale nearby.
There are responsibilities for each rank:
- Tigers – Hot drink stand
- Wolves – Tombola /Quick-pick game
- Bears – overall planning, set-up and clean-up
- Webelo – Set-up and Decoration
- AOL – Games for kids on arrival and Cake competition
In the meantime, if you have any questions, ask your Den Leader, or send an email to Ellen (egane AT who.int)
Thank you and best regards,
